A Netball History in Tasmania - The First Bounce 1900-2005
This book will introduce the reader to the beginning of Basketball, which later became known as netball on the global stage in 1971. The many past personalities were treasureed volunteers and often were already teaching in the many private schools around Hobart. This had eventuated through the determination of Marie Bjelke- Petersen and her brother Hans who had opened up a gym in Murray Street, Hobart and began teaching the new Basketball Rules they learned whilst in the United States. 'Echoes' the Friends school newsletter states their was a Basketball roster operating by 1900 which most schools actively participated in. It was the beginning of what has become one of the fastest growing sports in Australia for women and by 1963 the first World Championships were held in Eastbourne, England. This introductory is only a small insert about the interesting tales and the beginnings of the sport that has developed across Tasmania
